APPLICATION IS NOW OPEN: 2024 - 2025 School Year
The Afterschool STEM Mentoring Program (ASMP) is currently recruiting undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs, and STEM professionals to mentor elementary and middle school students with the goal of inspiring a lifelong interest in STEM. In partnership with the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), participants are placed at one of our many partnering school sites around New York City and commit to teaching one-hour sessions each week, over 10 weeks.Participating Mentors receive training in STEM curriculum and youth development, and work with a site staff partner to implement weekly one-hour sessions from Fall: October 7th - January 31st (10 sessions total). ASMP Mentors gain:
-Science communication and leadership skills
-Mentoring and teaching experience
-Opportunities to network and participate in professional development events
-A stronger connection to their communityOne year complimentary membership to NYAS
-Receive a $500 stipend at the completion of 10-sessions along with up to $150 in travel reimbursement

-rolling - August 30th: Mentor Interviews & Acceptance Letters
-September 16th: Mentor Onboarding begins (virtual)
-Saturday, September 28th from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM: Scientists Curriculum Workshop (in-person)
-September 30th - October 4th: ASMP Class Team Planning Week (30 min virtual meeting)
-October 7th - January 31st: Spring ASMP in-class sessions begin
-mid-November: Midpoint check-ins (1hr virtual workshop)
-January 31st: ASMP Fall 2024 in-class sessions end
-February 14th: Certificates and Stipends are awarded
