APPLICATION IS NOW OPEN: 2025–2026 School Year
The Afterschool STEM Mentoring Program (ASMP) is currently recruiting undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs, and STEM professionals to mentor elementary and middle school students with the goal of inspiring a lifelong interest in STEM. In partnership with the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), mentors are placed at one of our many partnering school sites around New York City and commit to teaching one-hour sessions each week, over 10 weeks.
Participating Mentors receive training in STEM curriculum and youth development, and work with a site staff partner to implement weekly one-hour sessions from October 5th, 2025 – January 30th, 2026 (Fall semester - 10 sessions total).

One-year complimentary membership to NYAS
$500 stipend upon successful completion of 10 sessions, plus up to $150 in travel reimbursement

Fall 2025 Program Timeline
August 31st, 2025: Applications close (rolling interviews and acceptance)
September 15th, 2025: Mentor onboarding begins (virtual)
Saturday, September 27th, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM: Scientists Curriculum Workshop (in-person)
September 29th – October 3rd, 2025: ASMP Class Team Planning Week (30-minute virtual meeting)
October 5th, 2025 – January 30th, 2026: Weekly in-class sessions begin. Mentors will lead 10x 1-hour sessions, meeting once a week during this period.
Early November (TBD): Midpoint check-ins (1.5-hour virtual workshop)
January 30th, 2026: Final in-class session
February 14th, 2026: Certificates and stipends are awarded
