APPLICATION IS NOW OPEN: 2023 - 2024 School Year

The Afterschool STEM Mentoring Program (ASMP) is currently recruiting undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs, and STEM professionals to mentor elementary and middle school students with the goal of inspiring a lifelong interest in STEM. In partnership with the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), participants are placed at one of our many partnering school sites around New York City and commit to teaching one-hour sessions each week, over 10 weeks.

Participating Mentors receive training in STEM curriculum and youth development, and work with a site staff partner to implement weekly one-hour sessions from Spring: March 4th - June 14th (10 sessions total).

ASMP Mentors gain

  • Science communication and leadership skills

  • Mentoring and teaching experience

  • Opportunities to network and participate in professional development events

  • A stronger connection to their community

  • Receive a $500 stipend at the completion of 10-sessions

  • One year complimentary membership to NYAS
