Thank you for your interest in The New York Academy of Sciences' virtual student opportunities with the Junior Academy!

This is a special student application cycle for students interested in Public Health and joining the Stevens Initiative in the Spring 2023 semester of programming for the following countries: 

Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestinian Territories, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, United States of America, and Yemen. 

This special recruitment period will be open from September 28th 2022 to January 3rd 2023. (Extended to January 8th at 11:59PM EDT!) We will be reviewing applications and notifying students of their status in our program in February 2023.  

Eligibility

  • Ages 13-17 at the time of the program.

    • Birthdate ranges for our 2022-2023 program year are June 7th 2005 -September 1st 2009. If your birthday does not fall within this time period your application will not be accepted.

  • All applications MUST be submitted in English

  • Have a keen interest in STEM

  • Interested in meeting students from around the world

  • Be able to participate in English

  • Team player looking to solve real world challenges on an international team of peers

  • From the following MENA or USA countries: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestinian Territories, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, United States of America, and Yemen.

Students who are not from the countries listed above will not be considered during our special recruitment cycle.

  • Please Note: Students who are already part of the Junior Academy on Launchpad do NOT need to apply again

How to Apply: Students only!

  1. If you already have a SurveyMonkeyApply account, login at the top of the screen, then click the “Apply” button to begin your application. 

  2. If you don’t have an account yet, click the “Register” button, create your account, and then proceed with your application. By creating an account, you will be able to save your application and return to it at any time. 

  3. Students: please fill out your name and the email that you use and have access to. The email you register with will be the email that we use to communicate with you!

  4. Make sure you fill in all of the tasks in the application. 

  5. Within the application, you must fill out a parental consent form. Please have your parent or guardian sign (we will need a valid signature) and date the form. Please upload all pages to your application.

  6. Students from the USA and MENA (Middle East North Africa) region will be asked to submit a Media Release form for a virtual exchange opportunity called the Stevens Initiative. More information will be emailed to students once accepted to the Junior Academy and they form a Stevens Initiative team.

  7. Review your work!

  • The Junior Academy introduces exceptional students to an online community where they gain access to best-in-class STEM resources and work together to solve real-world problems. STEM professionals mentor student teams during 60-day innovation challenges, with multiple challenges a year for participants to choose from.

    • Within the Junior Academy program, a challenge supported by The Stevens Initiative will be available to students from the USA and MENA (Middle East North Africa) region. Students from these eligible countries: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestinian Territories, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, United States of America, and Yemen. Students who choose to participate in a Stevens Initiative eligible team will have the opportunity to join the Stevens Alumni group upon challenge completion, where they will participate in exciting virtual exchange, and STEM related opportunities. 

    • 1000 Girls 1000 Futures program is a program designed to support young women interested in science and help them advance their pursuit of STEM careers. Students who identify as female can indicate they are interested in participating in this community and become a part of the 1000 Girls 1000 Futures community along with their Junior Academy community.
